Down Under Semifinals

Damn, all tennis should be like that. 3 of the the 4 semifinalists in the Australian Open were Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic, and Ana Ivanovic. Even the fourth semifinalist, an apparently chilly Daniela Hantuchova was nothing to look past. I mean, she ain't no Maria Kirilenko, but I certainly wouldn't throw her out of bed(well, maybe if she was eating crackers or something, but come on - have you ever tried to sleep with crumbs in the sheets?) With the second of the two matches not ending until after 1 AM eastern time, I have to imagine Skinemax ratings were down significantly last night.

Despite her sloppy play, Maria Sharapova(hang on, quick break for a mental image of a sloppy Sharapova...ok, we're good) easily took down a less than 100% Jankovic in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in a relatively uneventful match. You know, as long as you don't consider two hot sweaty foreign chicks in skimpy tennis dresses eventful. In the second match, it started out looking like another quick win as Hantuchova won the first set 6-0 and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second. Ivanovic was undeterred though, and battled back to win 6-3. Ivanovic then won a hard-fought third set 6-4 to set up a match against Sharapova in what is undoubtedly the hottest Grand Slam final in tennis history. Although you'll never hear me complain about the two straight years(2001 and 2002) of Jennifer Capriati vs Martina Hingis at the Australian Open.
