It looks like the injury concerns over Oden going into the NBA draft earlier this year are panning out. After exploratory arthroscopic surgery this morning, Oden was found to have articular cartilage damage in his right knee and had to have microfracture surgery to repair it. Oden will be on crutches for up to 8 weeks and will most likely miss his entire rookie season. The Blazers team physician has said that the long term outlook for a full recovery is promising.
I'm glad I didn't spring for season ticets after the draft, this will definitely hurt the Blazers this year, especially since they traded Zach Randolph to the Knicks and now lack a significant physical presence on the inside. On the plus side, if he keeps going at this rate (wrist injury last year, tonsillectomy earlier this summer, now serious knee injury) the Blazers will be starting the bionic man at center in a couple years.
